Do you need to spring clean your email marketing lists?

If you have an email newsletter or something similar, then when was the last time that you cleaned your list, or put another way removed contacts who are no longer engaging in your communications? You might feel like the aim of the game is to have as large a list as possible but that could be a vanity metric that’s costing you money. Mailchimp – one of the largest email marketing tools in use today, has recently substantially decreased how many contacts you can have on their free plans, which means you could be paying for contacts who aren’t interested in hearing from you. Most email marketing tools allow you to segment based on behaviour, which means you could create a segment based on people who haven’t opened any of the last 5 communications. You can then opt to remove them from your list.

Next week we’ll be dealing with Google Analytics and the switchover that’s planned for July.
