Green Open Homes

Owner of Harborough’s EcoHome Ann-Marie Woolley with daughters Leah and Ayla, and Green Open Homes organiser Emily Crown.

Owners of Market Harborough’s ‘green homes’ will be this week be opening their doors to the public, on Sunday 10th May, between 11am and 3pm.

The Green Open Homes event, organised by Sustainable Harborough, will allow members of the public to view and find out more about the green or sustainable modifications several Harborough residents have made to their homes.

Changes the public will be able to view and get advice on include solar panelling, improved wall insulation, draft proofing, air source heat pumps, reduced water consumption, growing your own food, and upcycling, amongst others.

To participate in the Green Open Homes tour, members of the public should visit the Sustainable Harborough hub, which will be located at the St Mary’s Place entrance to the Market Hall between 11am and 3pm on Sunday 10th May.

The Sustainable Harborough team will provide maps with details of the homes, as well as answering any questions and providing information on the latest grants and financial packages available to those who are interested in making their home more sustainable.

Project and Support Officer Emily Crown says:

We really hope that by opening up homes that have been successful in making these changes, the public will be able to see how making sometimes very small changes can have a massive impact on their sustainability.

Visitors to last year’s Green Open Homes event said that they felt better informed about eco-renovation, and gained practical advice thanks to the experience and advice shared by the open home hosts.

Everyone is welcome to attend, and the hub and homes will be open between 11am and 3pm – so drop in and find out more whenever is convenient for you.
