Marketing and Design for Leicester Marathon

Description of company

The Leicester Marathon is a long established marathon event, taking place annually in the centre of Leicester. As the event has grown, other events have been added to the itinerary, including a half marathon, relay races, and a fun run.

The Challenge

Around 10 months before the scheduled marathon date, the organisers were let down by their existing web company, and turned to The Ideal Marketing Company to create an engaging and appealing website that reflected the dynamism of the event and encouraged people to enter.

The Ideal Solution

In a short time frame, and with a limited budget, The Ideal Marketing Company used information from the previous race sites and combined it with past event and stock imagery to create a visually appealing site.

The previous sites had not enabled runners to book their place online, and so we integrated the site with a ticket registration site, in order to make the booking process as easy as possible, and avoid losing potential runners between websites. Charities were also able to register for blocks of running places through this system.

The site was also integrated with the marathon’s social media pages, encouraging runners to get involved and allow them to share information regarding the marathon with their friends.

What was achieved

The new Leicester Marathon website averaged around 2,000 visits a day, with the event selling out for the first time in its history. 8 charities utilised the new online facility for block booking places, meaning that more money was raised than ever before. Around 3,000 people participated in the marathon.

The Ideal Marketing Company have since been asked to update the website for the 2015 event.
