A rather orange origin story

You may have noticed that our logo is orange and purple. What you may not know is that our office (when we had one) was decorated in an orange and purple theme – even our fridge was orange! But why go to town over these two colours?

Well, it all goes back to when our founder, Alastair Campbell, was working in the advertising industry in London. He used to walk past a fruit and veg vendor in London on his daily commute, and see layers of apples, pears, grapes and peaches stacked in cardboard containers.

Alastair noticed that all of these cardboard containers were a bland taupe colour, aside from the orange containers, which were bright purple. So, one day he decided to ask the stall owner why these trays were different to the others. The grocer explained that purple and orange are on opposing ends of the colour wheel, so by putting the oranges against a purple background their colour was exaggerated, so they looked more orange and therefore fresher and more appealing to buy.

At the Ideal Marketing Company, we believe now, just as Alastair did then, in this approach of using insights into a product, customer, brand or market and applying them intelligently. Our brand colours proudly show our ethos of knowing our product, customers and market well enough to do the right marketing, in the right place, at the right time, for maximum impact.
