Mashable’s 6th annual Social Media Day is taking place on 30th June, offering all businesses the chance to reflect on how much social media has revolutionised their marketing and, if used well, improved engagement with their customers.
It’s easy to forget that social media is only a relatively new phenomenon – LinkedIn launched in 2003, Facebook was created in 2004, and Twitter only came into existence 2 years later in 2006. Whilst 12 years sounds like relatively short length of time, it’s almost impossible to imagine day-to-day life without it now! Mashable first launched Social Media Day in 2010 to celebrate this fact, and emphasise social media’s impact on global communication.
The average internet user spends 1.72 hours per day on social media, leading to the telling statistic that 28% of total time spent online is on social networking. This means that businesses have ample opportunity to use a variety of social networking platforms to connect and engage with their ideal audience.
However, many business owners are wary of using social media to its full potential. We often hear that our clients are confused by the variety of different platforms, and ask us the same questions: which platform will work best for me? Am I using it right? Should I be using it more?
After hearing these questions from clients new and old, Head of Digital Marketing at The Ideal Marketing Company Jessica Shailes decided that something must be done. That’s why she’s running the ‘Are you wasting your time on social media?’ seminar on 18th June.
The seminar aims to answer all of the questions that business owners, managers, and staff might have regarding social media – whether it be Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or a less well known site.
Social Media Day gives your business the chance to shout about what it’s been up to, talk to its followers, and explain how it can be of benefit to them. Use the hashtag #SMday on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Google+ and join in the festivities.
