Harborough company sponsor prize winning Harborough in Bloom
Market Harborough in Bloom (MHIB) has received a welcome boost from Harborough estate agents and chartered surveyors Andrew Granger & Co (www.andrewgranger.co.uk) who have sponsored this year’s entry.
The East Midlands round of the competition is due to be judged between Monday 2nd and Friday 13th July. This year’s bid is a real community effort, involving school children from seven Harborough primary schools who designed and painted the large planters which are currently on display in The Square and around the town centre.
Since their inception in 1996, MHIB has won Best Town in East Midlands in Bloom five times, plus four gold medals at regional level and bronze and silver medals at national level in the competition. As part of the project, the group have been working with young children in Harborough during the past five years to help them learn more about the natural environment.

Earlier this month (June) the MHIB volunteers were the recipients of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. The award is given every year in recognition of the outstanding achievement of groups of people across the UK who give up their own time to enhance the quality of life and opportunities for individuals and groups in the community.
“The Market Harborough in Bloom volunteers generate huge involvement from schools, residents, shopkeepers, businesses and community groups in the town each year,” comments Chris Etherington, Project Manager of MHIB. “The In Bloom project is an exciting initiative aimed at improving the town’s environment for all who live, work or visit Market Harborough.”
