What does your Market Position mean to your customers?

In the last few videos, we’ve been talking about the basics of brand positioning in the marketplace, but what does it mean in real terms?

Positioning is about perception, so consider the values that your customers might get because of its position.

Bain’s Value Pyramids provide a B2B and B2C list of categories and values and is a nifty shortcut for just circling the values that apply.

For a B2C audience you’ve got:

  • Functional values
  • Emotional values
  • Life-changing
  • Social impact

Whereas for a B2B audience, you will deal with functional value again, but you’ve also got:

  • Table stakes
  • Ease of doing business
  • Individual value
  • Inspirational value
