All for LOROS

Firstly, we’d like to thank everyone who donated to our recent fundraiser for LOROS. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of support received from family, friends and clients alike.

LOROS charityYou can all rest assured that the money you donated will be going to a very worthy cause in LOROS. The funding will help the charity to continue the fantastic work they already do.

Anyway, we’re sure you’re all dying to hear how we got on, so here is the inside story from our tiring (and rather sweaty) two days:

Any chance of backing out of the challenge was quickly eradicated when the static bike was delivered to our offices on Wednesday afternoon. The bike was set up in our meeting room and despite itchy feet to get going, our team resisted the urge until the following morning…

Day one

Once we all arrived in the office on the Thursday, we were greeted with the news that –  thanks to an early wakeup call – Alastair had started putting the wheels in motion from 6am! Just the kind of commitment we needed to get us going!

After a few goes each on the bike, a healthy competition soon got underway around who could complete the most amount of miles in their own half hour slot. The award was given to Kieran, who completed an impressive 12 miles in one of his stints. He’s currently training for the Harborough Triathlon, so it’s only right that he was the fastest!

Right, back to the cycling. Before we knew where we were, we were fast approaching London. 86 miles completed by 10am was a great start and, after checking out the capital’s tourist attractions, we were in Brighton just three and a half hours later for a much needed ice cream on the pier. Trust us, the office was getting extremely hot.

After a trip to the shop for a top-up of deodorant (like we said, super-sweaty), we were refreshed and raring to go for an afternoon of more cycling across the Channel. To help soothe the jelly legs that were becoming increasingly wobbly as the day went on, homemade protein balls and vanilla and apple flapjacks were brought in by Jess and Hannah.

As we hit 3pm, just when our legs were really beginning to feel the burn, we were saved by our client, Sustainable Harborough. Not only did their project manager bring in bananas to refuel us, but he also got on the bike and helped to power us through the Channel Tunnel.

At the close of an energy-sapping first day, our monumental effort had left us in Dieppe, just 100 miles away from Paris – well ahead of schedule.

Day two

It’s fair to say that after going full-pelt on day one, there were a few aches and pains as the team made their way (crawled) into the office on Friday.

But the news that we were close to reaching our £1,000 target was all the motivation we needed and Paris was soon in our sights. It fell that Jess had the pleasure of riding us up to the Eiffel Tower as Bicycle Race by Queen rang out around the office.

A picture and a pop of champagne later, the task was complete! Although the healthy snacks were nice, nothing could quite match the sweet taste of champagne to finish!

Our goal was to raise £1,000 for LOROS and thanks to your donations, we’ve now reached over £1,200! We have hopes that we can push the total even higher. Donations can still be made on our Just Giving page.

Same again next year?
