A recent report has shown that 36% of SME’s have identified a gap in sales and marketing skills as restrictive for their businesses growth.
The 2013 Albion Growth Report suggests that one in six businesses have identified a skills gap in the areas of sales and marketing. This lack of confidence is leading to a less ambitious approach to the growth of their business, and also the likelihood of accessing new markets.
The report also noted that those business owners deemed as ‘optimists’ (those who anticipated growth within their company), were more likely to think about investing in research and development and HR, than sales and marketing, as they were focussed on future growth.
“Many business owners are very passionate about what they do and where they want their business to be, but don’t quite understand how to market their company”, comments Alastair Campbell, Managing Director of The Ideal Marketing Company. He adds “business owners should spend time trying to overcome this skills gap, as it can obstruct the growth of the company”.
