Michael Gerard Solicitors is a Leicestershire-based legal practice specialising in construction and engineering law. The team at Michael Gerard Solicitors provide expert legal advice to a wide range of professionals on all areas of construction and engineering law. Founder Michael Gerard is a Chartered Builder, a panel registered Adjudicator with the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and vice chair of the East Midlands branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
The objective
To increase Michael Gerard’s profile in the wider construction and engineering industry by identifying opportunities to showcase his expertise and guide fellow professionals on a wide range of topics relating to dispute resolution in construction and engineering.
The process
As a long-standing PR client of the Ideal Marketing Company, Michael Gerard had written many articles for key industry publications, including Planning & Building Control Today, UK Construction Online, Building Engineer and Construction Excellence UK. Keen to build on this success and to use his skills as an experienced public speaker, Michael asked the Ideal Marketing Company to approach leading industry bodies to secure speaking opportunities. To do this, we asked Michael to prepare a list of topics to speak on to include in a speaker profile we created to approach industry bodies.
The results
As the process coincided with the pandemic, the opportunities we found for Michael Gerard were delivered virtually, rather than in person as originally planned.
Michael delivered a webinar entitled ‘Introducing Adjudication and Mediation as Part of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Family’ to the Norwich & Cambridge branch of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). CIOB hub chairman Les Carter, described the presentation, which was delivered to 72 construction industry professionals as ‘thoughtful and insightful’.
Michael also delivered a webinar on the subject of ‘Dispute Resolution & Avoidance in Construction Contracts’ to 150 delegates at the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE). This led to an invitation to present at the 2021 Wales & North West Conference of CABE, due to take place when Covid restrictions are lifted.
